These Beacons in the Night have provided vital navigational aid to mariners since colonial times. Through lecture and a slideshow, this class will explore the role of lighthouses in war and in peacetime highlighting stories of the colorful keepers and their families who kept the lights burning bright and the preservationists who maintain them today.
William Dunn is a docent, author and the historian of Sea Girt Lighthouse in New Jersey. He is a past president of the Sea Girt Lighthouse Citizens Committee, the non-profit preservation group that maintains and operates the decommissioned lighthouse as a museum and community center. His articles and photos have appeared in numerous newspapers and magazines and can be found on the lighthouse website (www.seagirtlighthouse.org). Bill authored two books: Sea Girt Lighthouse: The Community Beacon and a photo history including 230 photos depicting the history of the Sea Girt lighthouse.
