The Ninth International Conference of the Henry James Society will be an in-person conference in Kyoto, Japan. The conference theme of “Community and Communicability” will spotlight issues concerning creating and maintaining communities that are also at the core of James’s writing by exploring the role of language and forms of social relations and networks. It will also focus on questions of nonverbal communications of the body and touching, as well as James’s views of illness and recuperation.
Attendees will have the option of purchasing tickets to the conference banquet, to be held on the evening of Friday, July 7. Optional excursions are being planned for Saturday, July 8 and Sunday July 9, with ticketing information to come.
All attendees are advised to check travel restrictions and be aware of local conditions.
Kyoto Garden Palace Hotel
The conference will be held at the Kyoto Garden Palace Hotel. Upon registering for the conference, attendees will receive a hotel booking link, active through the end of April, that they will be able to use to reserve a room at the special conference rate. Attendees wishing to stay at the conference hotel are encouraged to book their rooms as soon as possible. Please note that hotel rates are per person, not per room. (Guests will be charged for the number of people staying in the room).
