Event Details

Please join us at the 92nd Street Y on Wednesday, February 26 at 5:30 p.m. for a complimentary screening of Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom in honor of the extraordinary life of South African revolutionary, politician, and philanthropist Nelson Mandela. The screening—hosted in partnership with the 92nd Street Y—will be preceded by a conversation and Q&A with the film's producer, Anant Singh. Thanks to the generosity of the Weinstein Company, this event is free of charge and open to the entire Nightingale community. Should you have any questions prior to the event, please e-mail Director of Alumnae Relations Amanda Goodwin at agoodwin@nightingale.org.

Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom is based on South African President Nelson Mandela’s autobiography of the same name, which chronicles his early life, coming of age, education and 27 years in prison before becoming President and working to rebuild the country’s once segregated society. Idris Elba (Prometheus) stars as Nelson Mandela, Naomie Harris (Skyfall) stars as Winnie Mandela, with Justin Chadwick (The Other Boleyn Girl) directing.

UPDATE: Wednesday’s screening of “Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom” will also be introduced by actor Jeffrey Wright.

Wright is known for roles such as Muddy Waters in Cadillac Records, Beetee in The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and Colin Powell in W, as well as his work in the HBO series Boardwalk Empire, James Bond films Casino Royale and Quantum of Solace, and Angels in America.

Jeffrey Wright and Anant Singh will be introducing the film at 5:30pm, and the screening will follow at approximately 6:10 p.m. We hope that you will join our community for this special evening.

Please note that the film is rated PG-13, meaning that some material in the film may not be suitable for children under 13 years of age.
