Description

The Nighthawks Challenge is designed for NHS students and NHS/Newtown Public School Faculty and Newtown Board of Education to compete in teams of 4 to 8 members. This Challenge consists of 12 minute-to-win-it challenges and obstacles testing your mental, physical and creative ability. You do not have to be a triathlete, genius or rockstar to compete but your team will excel if your members represent a well-rounded set of skills. This 1st Annual Nighthawks Challenge is presented by The Newtown High School PTSA in partnership with the Newtown High School Administration.

GREAT NEWS - early bird pricing extended to Friday, February 23rd!

Proceeds from the 1st Annual Nighthawks Challenge will be split between the NHS PTSA Senior College Scholarship Fund and Teacher Grant Programs and to a cause determined by NHS student body by March 30th.

Obstacles include: Pie Throwing, Dance, Kazoo Challenge, Cupcake War, Inflatable Obstacle Course, , Trivia, Build a Structure, Rowing, Team Theme, Blind-folded Spelling, Three Point Throw.

March 11th Nighthawks Challenge Day Schedule:

11:00 am Team Check-In, Review of Obstacles and Distribution of Challenge T-Shirts*

12:00 pm Challenge begins

1:45-2:15pm Post-race celebration and awards.

* T-shirts will be available for pick up at NHS Lobby on March 9th from 12 -130pm and 3-5pm.

Things to know:

  • Teams must consist of 4 - 8 members and can be any combination of NHS students; Newtown High School, Newtown Middle School, Reed Intermediate School, Hawley, Head O’ Meadow, Middlegate, and Sandy Hook Elementary School Faculty and Staff and Newtown Board of Education employees.
  • Each team must register as a group and requires a Team Name in the registration process. Team Name will be important in one of the obstacles so creativity and theme is important.
  • Each individual participating in the NightHawks Challenge must complete a waiver and submit to ptsaofnhs@gmail.com by March 10, 2018. Link to waiver form - https://drive.google.com/open?id=1exJY_Am50MKw7vMMp2ziYUhYWUzzzZB8
  • The race will be limited to 16 teams.
  • Early Bird Team Registration Fee of $8 per member by February 23rd, $10 per Team Member Team Registration Fee from February 24th through February 26th
  • Clothing recommendations/requirements: closed toed shoes only, wear comfortable clothing that you can run, jump, play, get messy in; recommend team members remove all jewelry. Teams will be emailed with additional first event details which may require creative thought for a costume theme. Newtown School District dress code applies for this event.
  • Note - Newtown High School students are the only Newtown Public School students allowed to compete in the Nighthawks Challenge
  • The start, finish and celebration, including all obstacles, will be held indoors, within Newtown High School.
  • Several obstacles will be occurring concurrently with a presentation and celebration for the top 3 scoring teams. Scoring criteria is unique to each obstacle; elements comprised in scoring include obstacle-time-to-completion, audience voting, quality of completed obstacle, and number of tasks completed within timed obstacles. Detailed descriptions of each obstacle and scoring/points awarded framework will be provided to each team at check in and posted at each obstacle event the day of the Challenge.
