Event description

Description

Once a photographer understands camera operation at night, there is no photographic situation where he or she cannot find success.

In this class you’ll gain a thorough understanding of how to think about and modify exposure to control your photography in any lighting environment. The class starts with a lecture on exposure theory and then we’ll take an instructional hands-on photo walk to apply the concepts.

What You’ll Learn

  • ISO (light sensitivity)
  • Shutter Speed (length of exposure)
  • Aperture (size of lens opening)
  • Exposure Value
  • Focusing at night
  • How to use your camera’s light meter at night

We will begin our class with an in depth examination of aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. Then we will begin to examine exposure theory, which is an understanding of the interconnectedness of these three variables. Last, we will look at your camera’s meter and focusing systems, how they operate, and why they fail at night.

Following the classroom instruction we will meet at a designated location for an on-site group photo shoot.

This is a fundamental building block program intended for the DSLR / Mirrorless camera owner who is looking to advance their photography in manual settings and understand the principles of light.

Due to the very hands-on nature of this workshop, class size is limited to 10 people.

Student Testimonials

“I greatly enjoyed getting out there with you. Up until now I've been a shoot first, correct later kind of photographer, but getting out there with you is helping and encouraging me to be a better photographer with a lot less post processing. Best class experience yet, thank you!"
