Exhibition Information:

@popculturediedin2009 is the world’s leading scholar on celebrity scandals that took place between 2000-2009. As an institution we love scholars. We have joined forces to co-curate an exhibit that celebrates the scandals that guided us through the decade.

Right now, someone somewhere is looking at an exhibit featuring photos of rock stars in their heyday. Good for them! We feel it’s time to celebrate the icons of the aughts we all know and love as the rockstars they are. Sure not all of them “played music” but their music was the sound of a faceplant while exiting a Range Rover, a catchphrase created organically on a reality show, the beeping of a court enforced alcohol monitoring bracelet, the mixing of antibiotics with things you shouldn’t mix antibiotics with. The list goes on, do you hear the music now?

This exhibit will be an imaginary summit. Through the lens of Nicole Richie’s infamous Memorial Day BBQ, @popculturediedin2009 will provide a historian’s look at the many celebrities and scandals that formed a generation. We all remember the leak of Nicole Richie’s e-mail invitation to the BBQ, but what we don’t know is who was CC’d. The exhibit asks you to do one thing: imagine if everyone was. Tyra Banks, Britney Spears, Mischa Barton, Lindsay Lohan, Janet Jackson, NOT JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE, Paris Hilton’s Valtrex prescription bottle. All of the most fabulous people from the era.

In collaboration with many artists we will journey back in time to an alternate dimension. Join us as we celebrate America.
