Description

News nerd night at the Chicago Design Museum

The people you meet can be the best part of NICAR, especially when you get to spend time with fellow news nerds outside the conference day. Take advantage of visiting downtown Chicago this year and come join us March 9 for food, conversation, and games in a special exhibit at the Chicago Design Museum.

"HEY! PLAY! Games in Modern Culture" uses cardboard boxes and VR headsets, sound inputs and parachutes to explore how we as humans relate to and through games. Check out this review —the exhibit is incredibly cool, and it's all ours the Friday night of NICAR.

We'll have an awesome space. We'll have snacks. There will be games. All we need is you!

When

Friday, March 9, from 7:30 to 9:15pm. The exhibits are open and not on a program, so please feel free to drop in whenever and stay for however long you like. You’ll have plenty of time to stop at the NICAR reception, come hang out at the museum with some awesome news nerds, and even catch a late dinner nearby if you like.

How to get there

The Chicago Design Museum is a 15-minute walk across the river from the NICAR venue. If the weather's bad or it's just easier to take transit, it's also a short, easy ride. From the Grand CTA station (two blocks from the Marriott), take the Red Line south to the Lake CTA station, and you'll be just a block from the museum.

Let us know you're coming!

We will have some room for drop-ins, but we'd love to make sure we have enough snacks for everyone and don't break the fire code. If you'd like to come, drop your name in here and we'll send you a reminder during NICAR week. Thanks!

Sponsored by The New York Times, The Knight Lab at Northwestern University, and OpenNews
