Wisconsin NICA League On-the-Bike Skills (MTB101) This is a prerequisite to MTB201

About this Event

This course will be taught by Josh Shively. Completing this course will satisfy the requirement for Professional Development for Level 2 and 3 Coaches. Please see Coach licensing link on the Wisconsin League website.

In this class, coaches will learn the progressive steps needed to teach anyone both basic and advanced mountain biking skills. You will also learn about experiential teaching techniques, how to accommodate different styles and abilities, and how to create a positive learning environment for young riders.

10 Fundamental Skills:

Neutral and Ready Position

Bike/Body Separation

Pedal Position

Eye Movement

Braking

Cornering

Speed

Gear and Cadence

Timing and Coordination

Pressure Control

Agenda:

-Basic Skills Demonstration

-Small Group Breakouts

-Coach Assessment and Feedback

-Collaborative Coaching Discussion to review best practices: guiding a ride, organizing practices, prepping for races, etc.

Upon completion, each attendee will receive an On-the-Bike Skills Field Guide.
