Event Details

According to research done by the National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC), Paramount Pictures has the worst numbers amongst all film studios when it comes to representation on screen and off screen of Latino talent. Out of the top 100 grossing films of both 2016 and 2017, Paramount Pictures produced 20 films. Of the 20 films, there were only 7 Latino actors, 1 Latino director, and ZERO Latino writers.

NHMC and the National Latino Media Council (NLMC) are asking the public to join them in a series of actions to be taken against Paramount Pictures, including a social media campaign and demonstrations nationwide, until, and if, they sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with NHMC/NLMC, detailing how they plan to solve their exclusion and lack of Latino talent.

The time has come to let Paramount Pictures know that enough is enough. #HireUsLatinos

We are meeting on the corner of Melrose Ave. and Winsor Blvd., Los Angeles, CA 90038, in front of the Melrose Gate at Paramount Pictures Studios – 5555 Melrose Ave.

There is free two-hour street parking down N Windsor Blvd as well as the surrounding streets south of Melrose Ave. Note* This is a neighborhood so sometimes parking isn't always as available but the closest lots are far away.

You can be dropped off at the corner of Melrose Ave and Windsor Blvd.

Best option is to head to the Hollywood and Vine Station on the Metro Red Line. From there you can walk to Argyle Ave. & Hollywood Blvd. and take the DASH Hollywood/Wilshire Route Bus. Get off on the Melrose Ave. & Beachwood Dr. stop. Then walk east on Melrose for three blocks to arrive at Melrose Ave. & Windsor Blvd.

Here are the FACTS:

-  Latinos make up 18% of the U.S. population or 56.6 million people (not including the 12 million undocumented Latinos) we have one of the highest buying power levels at 1.5 trillion dollars. Yet Latinos in Hollywood are almost invisible.

-  Latinos buy 24% of all tickets sold at the box office. Between 2007 and 2016 Latino actors only appeared in 3.1% of the speaking roles in front of camera according to a July 2017 report by USC. The number of Latino directors and writers were just as dismal.

-  The 2016 numbers released by UCLA’s “Hollywood Diversity Report” in February 2018 were even worse. Latinos only appeared in 2.7% of the speaking roles and writers and directors were practically non-existent.

Why YOU need to care:

The Latino community must be part of the industry to defy stereotypes in society by telling our stories, inspire future leaders and make great content that excites and resonates with people all over the world. How we are perceived is how we are treated. If we are absent on the screen or tied to stereotypical negative characters the racists of the world will continue to malign us.

Who WE are:

NHMC and the NLMC are made up of Latino entertainment professionals and activists whose purpose is to leverage Latino economic, political, and artistic power to create opportunities for Latino artists in all media.

National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC)

The National Hispanic Media Coalition (NHMC) is the media watchdog for the Latino community, ensuring that we are fairly and consistently represented in news and entertainment and that our voices are heard over the airwaves and on the internet.

We exist to challenge policy makers and influencers from Hollywood to Washington, DC and everywhere in between, to eliminate barriers for Latinos to express themselves and be heard through every type of medium. NHMC works to bring decision-makers to the table to open new opportunities for Latinos to create, contribute and consume programming that is inclusive, free from bias and hate rhetoric, affordable and culturally relevant.
