Event description

Description

The purpose of the Summit is to:

1.) Provide an overview of cardiovascular disease (CVD), including background, risk factors, common therapies, the number of Americans and Texans impacted, and the evolution of CVD medical innovation.

2.) Share approaches on how to prevent CVD in the Hispanic community, including the important roles physicians and caregivers play in both prevention and in helping diagnosed patients navigate the health system.

3.) Discuss access to CVD healthcare services, some of the barriers to care and how different groups are working to alleviate these challenges; and

4.) Demonstrate how physicians can train themselves to be better healthcare professionals for Hispanic CVD patients through ongoing faculty training/continuing education, and how patients can be their own advocate through the power of social media, media, and online tools/resources.

Established in 1994 in Washington, DC, the NHMA is a non-profit association representing over 50,000 licensed Hispanic physicians in the United States. The mission of NHMA is to empower Hispanic physicians to work with medical societies, residents and our public and private partners to improve the health of Hispanics.
