Tours at 4:50 pm & 6:50 pm

Over the past decade, large swaths of of New York City’s waterfront have been rezoned and redeveloped for new residential, commercial, and recreational uses. While this massive shift has been especially pronounced along the East River in Brooklyn and Queens, along Newtown Creek–the 3.8-mile waterway that separates the city’s two largest boroughs–a lively cluster of active industrial businesses remains. From bustling scrap metal yards to the city’s most iconic wastewater treatment plant, the Creek is lined with the often overlooked spaces that make the rest of the city work. Open House New York invites you to take a boat ride with Newtown Creek Alliance Historian Mitch Waxman and Program Manager Willis Elkins to learn about how one of the city’s last great industrial waterfronts keeps New York City moving.

Boats will depart from Pier 16 in the Seaport promptly at 4:50 pm and 6:50 pm. Please arrive 15-20 minutes prior to your scheduled departure time for check-in. This event will take place rain or shine.

This boat tour is wheelchair accessible (lower deck only).

Tickets to this event are non-refundable. Should you not be able to attend, the full price of unused tickets may be treated as a donation to Open House New York and is tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.
