Event description

Description

Join NewTechKids' Late Fall 2017 computer science bootcamp! The bootcamp is organised in partnership with Maakplaats 021, the Amsterdam Municipal Library’s initiative to offer Maker spaces in its branches.

During this bootcamp of eight (8) weekly workshops, kids ages 7-12 will discover how technology, automation and robotics are transforming our world.

This bootcamp is designed to encourage kids to see technology as more than just computers, smart phones and gaming devices. They’ll learn how technology is all around them and embedded in everyday objects.

Our bootcamp will blend class discussions about the advantages, disadvantages and implications of technology with hands-on activities focused on designing, building and programming technology prototypes with Ozobots, LEGO Mindstorms and other tools.

We’ll also explain important computer science concepts such as automation, programming, commands, loops, variables, event handling, iteration, robotics, and design and prototyping.

To help them develop their collaboration skills, they will work in small teams for most of the activities.

This bootcamp is ideal for children with no previous exposure to computer science and those who have previously participated in NewTechKids programs. All of our programs are taught by professional teachers with specialised computer science training.

Workshops will take place daily from 16:15 - 17:45 in the atelier in the children's section at OBA Roelof Hartplein on the following dates:

- November 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29
- December 6, 13 and 20

This bootcamp is designed to help kids develop computational thinking skills: adopting thought processes required to solve problems and create solutions using computers. NewTechKids promotes bilingual education and our workshops will be taught in a combination of Dutch and English.

A minimum of 15 students is required to offer this bootcamp. Registrants will be notified one week prior if the bootcamp is cancelled and a full refund will be provided.
