Event description

Description

Help us improve the quality and quantity of Wikipedia entries on New Zealand libraries.

An edit-a-thon is an event where volunteer editors tackle a part of Wikipedia that needs improvement. Complete beginners are welcome; training and troubleshooting is provided. All you need to bring is a laptop!

The edit-a-thon will be run by Mike Dickison, New Zealand's Wikipedian-at-large, from July 2018 to June 2019, funded by a grant from the Wikimedia Foundation to help New Zealand organisations and people engage with Wikipedia and open knowledge.

This edit-a-thon is being hosted by the VUW School of Information Management, and will focus on improving the coverage of New Zealand libraries. You don't need to be a librarian: anyone can help with editing, researching, proofreading, and adding photos.

When and where

  • Tues 19 February January 2019, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm NZST

  • Rutherford House, 23 Lambton Quay, Pipitea Campus, Victoria University of Wellington (map)

  • Room MZ05/06 on the mezzanine floor. The VicBooks cafe is nearby for breaks. Refreshments will be provided, including lunch.

  • Wikipedians from anywhere in the world are of course welcome to join in remotely. Please feel free to hashtag edits with #nzlibraries.
