Daily Event: 11:00 AM to 6:00 PM (PDT)
New York, NY
San Francisco, California
London, United Kingdom
Enjoy the summer exhibitions, bursting with outrageous colors and exquisite forms, at the National Academy Museum on museum mile in New York City. The Annual, the country’s longest running showcase of contemporary American art and architecture is on view now through September 14th, featuring architectural models and drawings by starchitects I.M Pei, Michael Graves, David Adjaye and the lastest paintings and sculptures by artworld stars Frank Stella, Richard Serra, Thomas Nozkowski, and Richard Estes. Sculptural highlights include a rare large-scale, joyous architectural construct by Richard Tuttle and a large ceramic work by Betty Woodman, both bursting with vibrant, clashing colors. A cerebral white marble abstraction by Beverly Pepper offers a cool, elegant contrast. Carrie Mae Weems creates an exquisite video on her artistic inspiration from Italy, well placed in an intimate, oval gallery within the heart of the museum's beaux art mansion on 5th avenue. Concurrent to the Annual 2014, the Sonia Gechtoff galleries present the Year-End show of new and emerging sculptors and painters working at the ateliers of the Academy, such as Tess O’Dwyer whose oversized, gnarled, safety pins curl into the fetal position with pangs of despair.
The National Academy is open to the public from Wednesday through Sunday from 11am to 6pm. PAY WHAT YOU WISH on Thursdays.
