New York State Grade 9 ELA Curriculum Modules Professional Development (facilitated by PCG)

February 18 – for Teachers

February 19 – for Teachers

February 20 – for Administrators and Coaches

This one-day session is the first professional development for New York City schools implementing the Grade 9 ELA curriculum modules (developed by PCG for New York State), which are available on EngageNY.org.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • describe the structure and key design components of the New York ELA curriculum modules. (The focus will be on Module 9.1.)
  • identify key features of Common Core approach to canonical texts as embedded in the New York ELA curriculum modules.
  • explain how the New York grade 9 ELA curriculum modules help teachers scaffold students to rigor. Participants will explore the concept of rigor in high school at the ways rigor can be supported in the classroom.
  • connect literary non-fiction to the work of high school ELA instruction through this module.

Timing: All workshops will take place from 9 a.m – 4 p.m. Registration will open at 8 a.m. Please arrive by 8:45 a.m. so we can begin promptly at 9 a.m.

Location: Lighthouse International, 111 East 59th Street, Manhattan

Food: We are unable to provide food for this workshop. You will have an hour-long break for lunch during the day. Please plan accordingly.

Per Session: All per session for these workshops will be provided by your school. Please speak to your principal before registering for this session. Registration will close February 13.
