Event Details

On behalf of Empire State Development's Division of Minority and Women's Business Development, we invite you to join us at a New York State Disparity Study Community Meeting.

A Disparity Study is an evaluation of the procurement and contracting practices of government, particularly its use of MWBEs. The New York State Disparity Study, which is being carried out by Empire State Development pursuant to Article 15-A of the  Executive Law, will  determine whether there is a disparity between the number of qualified MWBEs, minority group members, and women ready, willing, and able to perform on state contracts, and the number of such firms and individuals actually engaged by the State. The Study will examine all contracting activities throughout New York State from April 1, 2010 through March 31, 2015. The results of the Disparity Study will be used to determine what changes, if any, should be made to the MWBE program.

Seventeen Community Meetings are planned throughout New York State, the next which will occur in Albany on March 10 and Poughkeepsie on March 11, with the additional locations and times to be determined. If you are in or near one of these regions, we hope you will be able to join us as we seek substantive input from the business community on our efforts. These meetings are designed to inform local communities on the NYS Disparity Study and identify businesses (primes, MWBEs and non-MWBEs) for more in depth interviews and anecdotal contributions to the final report. The community meetings will also be utilized to answer any questions you may have regarding the study.
