Hope Shines is proud to present this educational experience to all who find interest in Rwanda and want to learn more about our life-changing work in Rwanda. Come join us October 25th for a VERY SPECIAL guest speaker, Mr. Carl Wilkens.
As a humanitarian aid worker, Wilkens moved his young family to Rwanda in the spring of 1990 to serve as country director for ADRA (Adventist Development & Relief Agency). When the genocide against the Tutsi was launched in April 1994, he refused to leave. Thousands of expatriates evacuated and the United Nations pulled out most of it's troops. Wilkens was the only American to remain in Kigali.
For the past 8 years Wilkens and his wife Teresa have been speaking in schools and universities in 20 countries around the world about Rwanda’s stories of courage, resilience, and reconciliation. At the core of their message is the power of stories to shape the way we think, feel, and act toward others and ourselves. Stories of RESPECT, EMPATHY, and INCLUSION are the pathways they present for building a healthy global community.
The evening will feature Carl as guest speaker and there will be a silent auction and light fare. This event will benefit 36 vulnerable youth in Rwanda and support Hope Shines' programs on the ground. As our major fundraiser of the year, we hope you will join us and spread the word to those who love Africa, believe in HOPE, and strive to learn about the greater world in which we live!
