About this event
To be most effective, school based occupational and physical therapy sessions should be provided using explicit instruction in the natural learning environment in collaboration with school staff. This two-hour seminar is designed to familiarize school-based therapists with tools to provide meaningful 30-minute interventions in the therapy room, classroom and other natural environments and ensure collaboration with school staff in order to engage students in activities that contribute toward meeting IEP goals.
Topics Covered:
- Treatment plans using explicit instruction to effectively work toward your goals
- Techniques for providing therapy in the natural learning environment (classroom, therapy room, home via teletherapy, cafeteria, stairs, etc.
- Promoting collaboration and carryover with team and family members
- Guidelines and tips for completing all documentation in a timely manner including SESIS entries, daily session notes, IEP’s, Present Level of Performance, Goals, Annual Notes, Quarterly Reports
Learning Objectives:
- Identify successful treatment strategies and materials
- Identify when to use push-in vs pull-out
- Identify successful techniques for push-in
- Identify effective ways to collaborate with parents and IEP team members
- Complete all documentation accurately and in a timely manner
About the Presenter(s):
Christine Knafelc, OTR/L, has been working with the pediatric population for over 25 years and is the Occupational Therapy Clinical Supervisor for Therapeutic Resources School-Based Division. Christine has worked in all facets of pediatrics including early intervention, New York City DOE Schools, Charter Schools, Religious Schools, and preschools. Her vast experience in pediatrics has enabled her to mentor and coach clinicians transitioning to a school-based setting; spearheading the Pediatric Mentoring Program with Therapeutic Resources.
Cancellation Policy: 75% of course fee will be refunded if Therapeutic Resources is notified up to 21 days before the event. In lieu of a monetary refund, Therapeutic Resources also offers a credit for the full amount paid up until 5 days before the event. No refunds or credits are offered after the day of the course. If the course is canceled by Therapeutic Resources due to low registration, illness or cancellation of instructor, or inclement weather. Therapeutic Resources will refund the full amount paid for the course.
