Event description

Description

Was one of your 2019 resolutions to get a fresh start on a new career? Could that career be solving problems and making an impact using technology?

If you answered yes to either question (if you didn't that's OK too!) join the Turing School of Software & Design for our Try Coding Saturday Course on January 26.

Try Coding is a one-day program that will expose you to the basics of Front-End Engineering computer programming over the course of 6 hours. You'll get a taste of what it's like to be a software developer and learn it all in a supportive environment surrounded by other beginners.

Lunch is included in the ticket cost.

Why should I try this?

Because you have nothing to lose! In one day you’ll get a peek into how a software programmer works. By the end of the day you will build an interactive online game using code.
Throughout the day, you'll also learn about opportunities at the Turing School of Software & Design. Including a Q&A session with students and alumni about our community and culture and you can ask any questions about software development, our program, and how to start your technical career.

Takeaways

You'll have an opportunity to build a project that you're proud of with support and feedback from our instructors.

After Event - Save on tuition!

Anyone who attends the workshop and is later accepted to the Turing School will save $500 on tuition.

FAQ

Don't see the answer you need below? Questions? Contact Erin Williams at erin@turing.io

1. Do I need to bring a computer?

You will need a computer for this class. It does not matter what the operating system is as long as you are able to access the internet through a browser. However, if you do not have one, a limited number of loaner computers are available for the class. Email Ramiro at ramiro@turing.io if you need to reserve a loaner.

2. Where do I park?

The attached garage to the building is $7 on weekends.

3. Is the space accessible?

Yes, we have an elevator to our space and all classrooms are accessible.

4. I want to attend but I can't afford it. Are there any scholarships available?

We are offering scholarships on a limited basis for students with financial need. Please contact erin@turing.io for more information.

5. When should I arrive on Saturday?

Please arrive by 9:45 on Saturday morning to register and get settled.

7. Are kids welcome?

Generally people high-school age or older can keep up with the class and are very much invited. Unfortunately, the venue does not have enough space for child care, so younger ones will need to spend their Saturday somewhere else.

8. I’ve already practiced some code as a hobby or through Codecademy - will I still benefit from this course?

This course is designed for people who are brand new to code and have never tried it before. That doesn’t mean that those with some experience aren’t welcome or will not benefit from it, but some parts may be a review.

If you have specific questions about what will be covered and if it is a the right fit for your skills, email the instructor, Rachel Warbelow, at rachel@turing.io.

9. What is the refund policy?

If for any reason you can’t make it to the event, tickets are refundable up to 24 hours before.

*Cancellation of events are dependent on a variety of factors including registrations, inclement weather and pressing needs that come up. If we do cancel your Try Coding workshop, you will be notified more than 24 hours in advance, credited back your registration payment and sent the schedule of other events.
