Agile Coaches Joe Hershey and Marius Jooste will lead us through a whole day retreat where you will be helped, coached, and stretched to learn and practice different coaching techniques, all while learning, teaching, and coaching others to do the same. This retreat will strengthen your agile coaching muscles, and leave you wanting for more.
About the retreat:
This is your chance to learn and share coaching skills, knowledge and abilities with fellow agile scrum masters, project managers, team members, line managers, leaders, and executives. No matter what our role, title, or past history, we’re all Agile Coaches when we take the Coach’s Stance.
The day starts in the morning with a catered breakfast and a low key awakening for the day. A day’s overview is given and the group is led through a simple getting to know you activity. The morning is then spent in several breakout group sessions. This gives you the opportunity to learn through practice with a common situational problem, other coach perspectives, and a powerful set of techniques / skills.
Lunch is served and the group takes a break in the middle of the day where we can gather and share, learn, network in a more unstructured way.
After lunch, the day continues with an extended Lego Serious Play (LSP) activity based around small group learning and Appreciative Inquiry. It’s a great introduction to LSP, if you haven’t worked with it before, and is facilitated to maximize your understanding of both LSP and Appreciative Inquiry as a positive change tool in your bag of tricks. This activity has always been a crowd pleaser and a way to keep the group up and active after a delicious lunch. Past attendees report it inspired them to draw more gaming and creative play into their workplace as a way to introducing change and build teams.
The day concludes with an opportunity for an attendee led session and a closing circle of questions.
… and then for those who wish to continue the networking and delight from the day in a casual setting are welcome to join us for an after party* somewhere close in Ann Arbor.
You won’t need to bring food or drink. Breakfast, lunch, snacks, and beverages are catered and covered with your price of entry. Our food options are robust, healthy, and flavorful.
If you have food needs ( vegetarian, gluten free, etc. ) please contact your facilitators at least 2 weeks ahead of the event.
What you will learn:
Your day of retreat is sure to be filled with multiple opportunities for shared learning, teaching, mentoring, and coaching that you wouldn’t be able to get from any other similar event. Your facilitators have crafted together a set of short lectures, activities, and intensive breakout sessions geared to shift your thinking and leave you with a set of practical tools you can use the moment you step back into work on Monday morning.
Who should attend:
This event is geared for agile leaders of all shapes and sizes. You are an agile leader if you find yourself teach, coach, or mentor someone else in your normal day to day work. This includes scrum masters, project managers, team members, line managers, leaders, and executives at all levels. Agile Coaching is a stance you take when working with another person or group of people.
This retreat has something for everyone who is looking to learn and share about being an Agile Coach, what that means, and how we might improve on doing that better, maybe in a small way, maybe in a big way.
If you are just beginning on your agile journey, this course may not be for you. If you find yourself being an Agile Coach in one or more of your past or current jobs, by fate, or by choice, this day of open learning definitely has something for you to take away and use in your immediate situation.
