Event Details

Regional Animal Services of King County (RASKC)

This session is for everyone, age nine & older, interested in volunteering to help RASKC animals. There are often volunteer opportunities at the following RASKC locations:

In North and East King County: Kirkland

In SE King County

  • Covington
  • Kent
  • Tukwila

Commitment: You are encouraged to attend new volunteer orientation to check out whether or not you’d like to make a commitment to volunteering.

After attending this session, if you would like to make the following commitment and if you are selected to volunteer, you would need to attend additional trainings.

If you will be a summer-only volunteer, then the minimum commitment is six shifts plus at least two training shifts for most roles.

Otherwise the minimum commitment is usually for 50 hours for most roles. This  usually equates to a weekly shift, usually two hours, for at least six months (If it's an alternating week shift, then for at least 12 months). Some time off okay for vacations and so forth.

If you're planning to foster, then there are no minimum number of shifts. RASKC would like you, however, to foster with the intention of fostering several animals over an initial 12-month period. (We want to avoid people who foster one or two animals, adopt one, then discontinue fostering).

Youth: If you are 9- 15 years old, you must be accompanied by your parent/ parent-designated adult guardian to this session, all trainings sessions, and all shifts. The parent/ guardian must become a volunteer also complete all required paperwork.

If you are 16- 17 years old, your parent/ guardian does not need to be present if they sign and submit the necessary paperwork available by scrolling down to the FAQ section at www.kingcounty.gov/RASKCVolunteer.. Youth do not work with dogs at RASKC/ Kent.

School Community Service: RASKC gives credit for school community service with the 50-hour commitment or with the “Super Summer Volunteer Special” where the student makes a commitment to at least six scheduled shifts plus training.

Court-Ordered Community Service: Okay for traffic-related offenses and comparable for certain volunteer roles only. Not eligible to work at a partner store, not eligible to work with dogs, and not eligible for Vet Clinic volunteering.
