New Student Orientation for Military Affiliated Students Spring 2017
Student Orientation is loaded with information that you need to know since we want to do all we can to help get you started on a path to success. During the orientation process you can expect to learn about:
Education and career goals and how the academic plan you choose must align with them
Academic requirements needed to graduate
The many student services that are available to help you succeed
Student clubs, groups and organizations; and
Meet other new students and make new friends

Academic Expectations (GPA, WTH, etc.)
VA Benefits (Documents, Certification)
Student Portal (Registration)
Grades First (Schedule appointment for the upcoming semester)
This session is for our Military Affiliated Students who have prior Service U.S. Military Only(regardless of discharge), Active Duty, Illinois National Guard, U.S. Reserve Components(Regardless Of Branch),or a Spouse or Dependent using V.A./State Benefits to attend college.
Determine if you need to take the online Assessment via your student portal
- Students with a “C” or better in college level English and Math may be exempt from the online assessment. Students must submit official college transcripts prior to the session.
- Students with current ACT scores may be exempt from the online assessment. Students must submit official ACT scores prior to the session.
How to get to Harold Washington College:
By public transit: Several transit routes run adjacent to the college including: the CTA Blue Line, Red Line, Brown Line, Green Line, Orange Line, Pink Line, and Purple Line, as well as the CTA bus #2, 10, 29, 124, 146, 148. http://www.transitchicago.com/travel_information/trip_planner.aspx
By bike: Bike racks are available at the entrance of the college on Lake Street.
By car: Cars access the college from Lake Street. There is no parking onsite, but the Wabash-Randolph Self Park Garage at 20 E. Randolph provides discounted parking to Harold Washington College students and visitors. Be sure to ask for parking validation from the Harold Washington College Security Desk before leaving the college to take advantage of the discount.
