Event description

Description

Arts Brookfield presents three live performances of David Bowie’s “Berlin Trilogy” of albums – 1979’s Lodger, 1978’s “Heroes,” and 1977’s Low — at the Winter Garden at Brookfield Place.

WNYC's John Schaefer curated this year’s New Sounds Live performances, which is led by Shearwater singer Jonathan Meiburg and includes past and present members of Deerhoof, Xiu Xiu, Shearwater, Dirty Projectors, Battle Trance, and the Wordless Music Orchestra. One album will be performed in its entirety each night—Lodger on the 17th, “Heroes” on the 18th, and Low on the 19th — and each concert will open with short programs of music that inspired the trilogy composed by Brian Eno and Klaus Schulze.

Carlos Alomar, Bowie’s guitarist, arranger, and musical director from 1975 to 1996, will be joining us as a special guest on the 19th (Low) performance. He will be conducting our performance of Warszawa, just as he did on Bowie’s 1978 tour.

Wednesday, October 17 at 7:30 PM: selections from Discreet Music (Brian Eno 1975) followed by Lodger (David Bowie 1979)

Thursday, October 18 at 7:30 PM: selections from Another Green World (Brian Eno 1975) followed by “Heroes” (David Bowie 1978)

Friday, October 19 at 7:30 PM: Selections from Body Love (Klaus Schulze 1977) followed by Low (David Bowie 1977)

Admission is FREE and open to the public.
