Tuesday, June 29th, 1-2 pm CDT, with Jamey Aebersold & Don Braden

Join saxophonist Jamey Aebersold and Don Braden in a 1-hour Jazz Masterclass:

Jamey Aebersold -- A legendary jazz educator, NEA Jazz Master, & acclaimed saxophonist, Jamey will give an improvisation masterclass open to all ages and experiences levels.

Jamey is an internationally known authority on jazz education and improvisation, and has developed a series of Jazz Play-A-Longs (book and cd sets now numbering over 130 volumes) as well as various other supplemental aids for the development of improvisational skills. The Aebersold book and recording sets allow a musician the opportunity to practice and improvise with well-known jazz players at home as well as in the classroom. The recordings employ some of the best jazz musicians in the world. This concept has been responsible for changing the practice habits of thousands of musicians around the world.

Jamey's hobby is listening to jazz, especially new young players. He also enjoys playing basketball (he has hit 50 free throws in a row!) and is very much interested in spiritual pursuits as they apply to the growth of the individual.

Friday, July 2nd, 1-2 pm CDT, with Emmet Cohen & Don Braden

Join pianist Emmet Cohen and Don Braden in a 1-hour Jazz Masterclass, Livestreamed from “Emmet’s Place” YouTube channel in NYC (over 4M views, and 36K subscribers).

Emmet Cohen – Is a renowned pianist and B-3 organist, leader of the Emmet Cohen Trio, & bandmember with Christian McBride & Tip City. Emmet has performed, recorded, or collaborated with Ron Carter, Benny Golson, Jimmy Cobb, George Coleman, Jimmy Heath, Tootie Heath, Houston Person, and many others.

Cohen has headlined at the Village Vanguard, the Blue Note, Dizzy's Club Coca-Cola, Birdland, the Jazz Standard, and has appeared in the Newport, Monterey, Jerusalem, and North Sea jazz festivals, among others, and at Lincoln Center's Rose Hall and Washington's Kennedy Center.

Cohen notes that performing jazz is "about communicating the deepest levels of humanity and individuality; it's essentially about connections," both among musicians and with audiences.

An alumnus of the YoungArts Foundation, Cohen now curates multidisciplinary YoungArts programs nationally that include creative writing, theater, dance, visual arts, cinematography, music, voice, and jazz.

A Suzuki piano student at age three, Cohen holds jazz piano degrees from the Manhattan School of Music (M.M.) and the University of Miami (B.M.)
