Description

New play readings provide the unique opportunity to hear a new script in development for a future season, and to engage in conversation that provides vital feedbcak to our artistic team. Through a series new play readings each season, we will engage the community in conversations about the work and the process of creation while also providing additional training and performance opportunities for youth and adult actors, writers and directors. New play readings take place at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, and admission is free.

THE GREAT IGNORED

By Finegan Kruckemeyer
Directed by Jeff Frank

“Some kids, they can only read so many stories... before they decide they wanna make their own.”

An homage to the great noir detective stories, 'The Great Ignored' sees child-sized protagonists left to clean up an adult-sized town.

In a Gothamesque city, where the shadows are long and the deals are shady, four kids face off against something a whole lot bigger than four kids. Bianca 'The Anchor' Carter runs the plays, Jimmy 'Knuckles' Green is the muscle, Louie 'The Twin' Kanaski can pull a con like no other, and Tilly Whaites... is too shy for a nickname but too smart for the rest.

Calling themselves The Great Ignored, they use the fact kids are overlooked to run surveillance, and always stay one step ahead of the crooks. But when The Anchor is kidnapped from her treehouse stronghold by the worst of the worst, the task of saving her - and in turn the city - falls to the remaining three...
