‘THE ROMANCE OF THE BROOKLYN BRIDGE,’ LATEST IN THE OUT PROFESSIONALS SERIES OF SATURDAY ADVENTURES.
Since 1883, the granite towers and steel cables of the Brooklyn Bridge have been recognized the world over as an icon of New York City. Once dubbed “the eighth wonder of the world” and designated a National Historic Landmark in 1964, the bridge still inspires awe for its engineering, its beauty, and the views from its raised wooden walkway.
On Saturday, July 19, Out Professionals makes the bridge the centerpiece of a two-for-one walking tour and mixer. Bring a guest, free! Afterwards, network, socialize or just unwind among new friends at Superfine in DUMBO, Brooklyn’s celebrated weekend destination.
The Brooklyn Bridge has been featured in such films as Woody Allen’s romantic comedy “Annie Hall” and Martin Scorsese’s brutal epic of mid-19th-century Manhattan, “Gangs of New York.” Lately love-struck visitors have been festooning it with padlocks bearing their names, throwing the keys into the East River.
Out Professionals’ private Walking Tour/Mixer series is designed for us — and you — by Joyce Gold History Tours of New York. Joyce teaches New York history at New York University and the New School.
Highlights of her Brooklyn Bridge tour tour include:
- The engrossing saga of the site, design and construction of the bridge.
- Spectacular views of the Lower Manhattan skyline and New York’s harbor.
- The inaugural section of Brooklyn Bridge Park, soon to encompass 1.2 miles of the waterfront.
