Event description

Description

Since the 1950s, the rapid development of computational technology propelled us into an unprecedented art and technology convergence. The multiplicity of new media languages and platforms invites us to explore new modes of expression and play. Please join us for a workshop to make your own computational artwork similar to the one shown in the background image, as well as discussions on emerging new media art practices.

The workshop portion will cover simple digital image, animation, and visual coding techniques using a popular indie game development platform Unity. The result of the workshop is a fun, art film self-generating its ever-expanding plots. While our virtual avatars meet and greet each other in the colorful virtual world, the creators will also get to know each other face-to-face, in the physical world.

This event is a partnership between Creative Tech Week (CTW2018) and the Creative Technology Certificate (CTC) program at Teachers College, Columbia University. It is taught by CTC fellow Zhenzhen Qi. No prior computational art background needed.

No prior computational art background needed. Please bring a personal laptop. This workshop is free for public.
