Description

EDUCATE Truth | EXPOSE Systems | ENGAGE Action

The New Jim Crow series is a non tax deductible contribution-based six week community book discussion facilitated by Educate To Engage, LLC.

Sessions occur weekly beginning Thurs., Sept. 7 - Thurs., Oct. 12, @ 6:30PM - 8:30PM.

Using the book as a guide for provocative dialogue, our mission is to explore slavery to mass incarceration while examiming our own experiences of oppression and/or privilege, respectively. We will EDUCATE truth about American history, EXPOSE systems of oppression in the US criminal justice system, and ENGAGE in transformative action upon reflection of these realities.

We use the hashtag #NoMoreBystanding as a rally cry to anyone interested in joining a self-reflective, unapologetic, transformative process that contributes to ending the war on Black/Brown people.

Excerpt from NewJimCrow.com...

The New Jim Crow is a stunning account of the rebirth of a caste-like system in the United States, one that has resulted in millions of African Americans locked behind bars and then relegated to a permanent second-class status—denied the very rights supposedly won in the Civil Rights Movement.... The New Jim Crow tells a truth our nation has been reluctant to face.

Michelle Alexander shows that, by targeting black men through the War on Drugs and decimating communities of color, the U.S. criminal justice system functions as a contemporary system of racial control, even as it formally adheres to the principle of colorblindness.

The New Jim Crow challenges the civil rights community—and all of us—to place mass incarceration at the forefront of a new movement for racial justice in America.
