New Jersey Chamber Singers are proud to present a new dimension to your Christmas experience with A Ceremony of Carols. Cloaked in mystery, this concert program features music for harp and choir that will transport you to another world – a world of medieval poetry. Benjamin Britten’s beloved Ceremony of Carols was written in 1942 while he was crossing the Atlantic on a Swedish cargo ship. While the ship was called into Halifax, he purchased a copy of The English Galaxy of Shorter Poems, which inspired him to write this haunting sequence of carols. In 2002, Frank Ferko composed A Festival of Carols also for harp and choir, which features Christmas carol texts by 19th-century, American poets. Interspersed within this rich current of ancient and modern music, familiar carols will complete this unforgettable concert experience.
