A series of presentations by

Dr Hilary Dyer FRSA AFBPsS

Drawing on her forthcoming book Dr Hilary Dyer will be presenting new material which covers:

  • Historical perspectives on PDA – a critical appraisal of the work of Elizabeth Newson, (1980-2003) including overlooked aspects
  • The central role of anxiety in a PDA presentation: how anxiety manifests in PDA, the role of masking in the youngster with PDA presentation
  • Polyvagal Theory and PDA – the new neuroscience of PDA: The work of Steven Porges on Polyvagal Theory and ASD; Applying Polyvagal Theory to PDA
  • Evolving the diagnostic criteria for PDA : Dr Dyer’s development of Newson’s original diagnostic criteria following clinical cases (2010-2016) : What PDA looks like with the new criteria adopted
  • Differentially diagnosing PDA: Developing clinical, conceptual, and practical distinctions between PDA, Oppositional Defiant Disorder, and Attachment Disorder; Why PDA should be retained as a distinctive and separate sub-type of ASD.
