Event description
Part Three of JP Movie Night's Five Part Online Series: "Small Screen, Big Picture"

About this Event

From January through May JP Movie Night plans to offer a monthly screening of five independent documentaries. All the films will feature work by local documentarians. All films will be followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers on the third Thursday of every month.

This feature, our third in the series, will be selections from "New Immigrant, Refugee Visions."

Synopsis: New Immigrant and Refugee Visions is a collection of documentary films by and about new immigrants and refugees. The films were made during a training provided by JP Movie Night partner Community Supported Film (CSF). The stories produced provide a unique insider perspective on the integration challenges faced by immigrants and the contributions they make to our culture, economy and social fabric.

The selected NIRV films - there are ten in all - include documentary shorts about a Rohinga refugee newly arrived in the US (Seeking Settled Ground); an Indian campaigning for city council (Campaign for a New American); a Somali refugee family divided generationally (Worlds Apart at Home); a Bhutanese Christian refugee helping other refugees and immigrants (Navigating Hope); and an undocumented Dominican mother and DACA designated daughter (She's an American Child).

CSFilm is a nonprofit dedicated to providing access to stories rooted in local perspectives. With NIRV they turned to new immigrants and refugees enabling them to amplify their unique insider perspectives on the challenges faced and the contributions made to American culture, economy and social fabric..
