New Frontiers in Health Policy Graduate Student Conference 2019

Drivers for Change in Health Policy: Innovation, Disruption and Sustainability

The Centre for Health Economics and Policy Analysis (CHEPA) and the McMaster Health Policy PhD Program are pleased to announce our annual graduate student conference, New Frontiers in Health Policy, which will be held on November 14, 2019 at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.

About the conference

This year our conference will address drivers for change in health services and policy–from disruptive action that centres marginalized communities, to innovative thinking that transforms the trajectory of health systems, to sustainable development for effective, lasting change. This annual event is geared to graduate students and post-doctoral researchers from a variety of disciplines and programs including political science, economics, sociology, health research methodology, health professions and health management.

The conference will include a dynamic panel discussion on the topic of Health in All Policies. According to the World Health Organization, Health in All Policies focuses on “on the consequences of public policies on health systems, determinants of health, and well-being.”(1) The panel will be followed by graduate student oral and poster presentations. We aim to foster a lively and supportive environment for discussion and constructive feedback on student research and works-in-progress.

We are delighted to partner with the Labelle Lectureship. The Labelle Lecture will follow the conference and will feature a keynote address by Dr. Jennifer Walker. Dr. Walker is an epidemiologist and health services researcher who holds the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Health at Laurentian University.

The conference will begin at 8:45 am and conclude at 2:30 pm on Thursday, November 14, 2019, and will take place at L. R. Wilson Community Room (LRW 1003), 1280 Main St W, Hamilton, ON L8S 4L8. Following the conference, the Labelle Lecture will begin at 3pm in the Health Sciences Centre (location details including parking and public transportation access to follow).

We welcome the submission of abstracts from graduate students in any discipline whose work addresses drivers for change in health services, systems, and policy in a local, national, or global context. Please find our call for abstracts here: https://tinyurl.com/y33lk74b
