Event description

Description

On the 5th of September 2017, Statistics South Africa reported that the economy was spluttering back to life with a 2,5% GDP growth rate (quarter-on-quarter). With the current challenges of poverty, unemployment and inequality, our nation is crying for hope. Is it too soon to hope for economic growth beyond 2.5%? More importantly, if South Africa slips back into a recession, can God trust you with an Economic Crisis?

The New Economy is neither socialist nor capitalist, it is underpinned by Christian principles and values. The New Economy book, written by Thabo Mahlobo was launched in Parliament and approved for admission into the Parliament Library. The New Economy Book Tour will be in Grahamstown from the 29th of September to the 2nd of October 2017.

Christians at Rhodes will host the Grahamstown leg of the book tour in partnership with the Mahlobo Foundation, CEGULLAH and Revival Mvuselelo Images. The main activities include presentations by Thabo Mahlobo and Steven Swart, ACDP MP, followed by robust panel discussions with intellectuals in from academia, business and politics.
