Energy Code Training

The Nevada Governor’s Office of Energy in partnership with Southwest Gas, NV Energy, and Southwest Energy Efficiency Project will be providing a day of training on the 2015 IECC to educate and inform the building industry on the differences between the current state code, the 2012 IECC, and the 2015 version of the energy code.

Benefits to attending include:

  • Learning the differences between the 2012 and 2015 IECC
  • Understanding the benefits of building to the energy code
  • Insight into inspection and plan review points
  • What’s required on the plans for the energy code both residential and commercial
  • Participating with a mix of the building industry and opportunity to learn from each industry
  • Provides subcontractors an idea of changes in construction and installation practices in the 2015 IECC

Trainer – Eric Makela with Cadmus Group Inc will provide the training

Eric Makela, Senior Associate, is the team lead for the Codes and Standards team at Cadmus Group.  Eric’s building energy codes expertise spans 30 years, numerous states, and countries as diverse as Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Fiji, and India. Makela served on the ICC IECC Code Development Committee for four cycles, and now represents the Northwest Energy Codes Group in developing IECC code change proposals.  In addition, he represented DOE on a team that developed a commercial code change proposal for the IECC that resulted in a 25% increase in efficiency over earlier codes. As a partner in Britt/Makela Group, Eric oversaw commercial and residential energy code compliance studies for 4 states and 4 large cities.  Makela served as a senior member of the U.S. DOE Building Energy Codes Program where his focus was on outreach and education to states and national stakeholders including the International Code Council, Building Code Assistance Project and the Regional Energy Efficiency Organizations.  Over his career Makela has trained in over 20 states to the building, design and enforcement industry in a variety of venues.  Makela was a recipient of the 2009 Jeffrey A. Johnson Award and the 2008 Canyon County Habitat for Humanity Volunteer of the Year.
