Event description

Description

The purpose of this workshop is to bring together clinicians, researchers and scientists pursuing HIV cure and HIV associated CNS co-morbidity research to discuss the novel imaging technologies that can be used to detect persistent HIV in the CNS as well as understand the pathology leading to CNS dysfunction in the antiretroviral therapy (ART) era. The brain presents a unique challenge where access for tissue sampling is difficult and noninvasive detection strategies are needed. Neuroimaging provides a non-invasive means to repeatedly monitor and characterize CNS dysfunction observed in HIV-1 infected individuals as well as be a potential tool to detect the CNS viral reservoir. This workshop, focused both on HIV reservoirs in the CNS and HIV associated CNS co-morbidities will enable us comprehend the research gaps, enhance our understanding of the field and help formulate future research priorities.
