Neurofeedback 101: A Crash Course for Professionals - This Training is the one that was rescheduled from January - Limited spots available!

Presenters: Katherine Thorn, LPC and Liz Schroth, LCPC

NEW DATE: TUESDAY, APRIL 16, 2019

TIME: 9AM-12:30PM

COST: $65

TRAINING OVERVIEW:

Neurofeedback training is an amazing treatment tool that can help calm anxiety, lift depression, and improve attention and focus. Originally developed for NASA pilots, neurofeedback is a non-invasive treatment that produces long-lasting results by training brain waves, correcting brain dysregulation, and improving communication between networks. This interactive and dynamic presentation will use case examples and demonstrations to help providers understand how neurofeedback works, how it fits in with talk therapy and psychopharmacology, and when to refer to a client to neurofeedback, and provide a step-by-step explanation of the course of treatment.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Participants will be able to:

• 1. Define and distinguish Biofeedback and Neurofeedback
• 2. Identify five types of brainwaves and associated states
• 3. Recognize common information provided on a brain map and broadly understand how the brain map informs neurofeedback treatment planning
• 4. Explain how brain dysregulation manifests in different disorders and how neurofeedback interventions can help
• 5. Recognize clients who are appropriate referrals for neurofeedback

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:

Katherine Thorn is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with over twenty years experience helping people with issues such as depression, anxiety, trauma, and loss. While talk therapy remains her primary modality of treatment, she saw the need to add new tools to treatment options. Having researched and witnessed the effectiveness of neurofeedback, she completed a course of study and extensive training program to become board certified. She now assesses and treats these and other conditions, such as attention deficit disorders in both children and adults, at her office in Silver Spring, Maryland. Ms. Thorn has served as the president the Mid-Atlantic Biofeedback Society and organized regional conferences and presented to provider organizations and federal agencies. For more information on her practice, visit: www.wellnessinmind.com.

Elizabeth Schroth (Liz) is a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC), a Board Certified Coach (BCC) and a trained neurofeedback practitioner. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology from Georgia State University (GSU), where she also completed advanced coursework in clinical psychology and clinical neuropsychology. Liz worked in various research and clinical capacities at the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH) and at GSU, studying anxiety across developmental stages. Currently, in her private practice, Liz works with children, adolescents, and young adults to treat attention issues, mood and anxiety disorders, learning disabilities, Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, symptoms of concussion, and sleep issues using combinations of neurofeedback, biofeedback, and traditional therapy. Liz serves as a member of the board of the Mid-Atlantic Biofeedback Society and has extensive training in neurofeedback. Please visit my website at www.elizabethschroth.com
