About this event
This interactive workshop will blend PowerPoint instruction, small group activities, and video/audio excerpts to build participant understanding in neurodiversity affirming interventions.
Reese Ramponi (they/them) is a child psychiatry APRN based in CT. They work primarily with queer, ADHD, and autistic youth in a community health setting, and have developed this training based on clinical experience, peer reviewed research, and the lived experience of Autistic/ADHD clients. Reese has been providing training to reduce health disparities for queer and neurodivergent youth for 8 years and brings personal experience as a late-diagnosed Autistic/ADHD person.
3 Continuing Ed Hours for APRNs through AANP
Goals:
(1) Understand the basics of neurodiversity affirming evaluation and therapy practice with ADHD and Autistic youth, adults, and families.
(2) Learn and practice the language of the neurodiversity paradigm and the social model of disability, and the impact of ableism on the therapeutic process in order to avoid inducing shame during interventions.
(3) Develop confidence in determining ideal medication choices for Autistic vs ADHD vs Autistic + ADHD clients through an understanding of how neurotype differences interact with comorbid psychiatric condition
(4) Develop skills in advocating for client support needs across institutional barriers in individual practice setting
(5) Identify unconscious biases around gender, race, and ability in order to work more effectively with clients of all races, genders, and sexual orientations.
