This networking event, organized by Propel Careers and Nutter McClennen & Fish, LLP, and hosted at Nutter McClennen & Fish, LLP, is designed to discuss trends and advances in how  life sciences companies develop convergent technologies – i.e. utilizing information technology to transform how medical devices, diagnostics, therapeutics, and overall  medical information is gathered, developed, and used.  This event will discuss exciting uses of this technology and will showcase the need for various skill sets/backgrounds to take these companies to the next level.


This event is designed to bring together individuals with diverse backgrounds to be exposed to the many exciting initiatives that the convergent technology companies are spearheading.   


During the event, a presentation of the overall “convergence technology” landscape will be given to highlight focus areas and points to consider for firms to develop technologies in this area. This overview will be followed by a panel discussion of leaders in the area to discuss innovative business models, product development strategy, partnership strategy, financing trends and future plans in this area.

Lauren Celano, co-founder and CEO of Propel Careers

Propel Careers is a life science search and career development firm focused on connecting talented individuals with entrepreneurial life sciences companies.  Propel Careers is engaged  across all areas of life sciences, including therapeutics, medical devices, healthcare IT, diagnostics, consulting, venture capital, and investment banking. Prior to Propel Careers, Lauren was a senior account manager for SNBL USA where she worked with emerging biotech companies in Europe, Asia, and the US to help characterize and advance their drug molecules. Prior to SNBL USA, she held business development positions with Aptuit and Quintiles, where she focused on IND enabling studies to advance therapeutics from discovery into the clinic.  Earlier in her career, Lauren held positions as a marketing manager and account manager at Absorption Systems, where she was responsible for managing life sciences companies in the northeastern United States.  She has a B.S. in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from Gettysburg College and an MBA with a focus in the health sector and entrepreneurship from Boston University.  Lauren is on the membership committee of the Boston Chapter of the Healthcare Businesswomen’s Association and she also serves on the programming committee of the Capital Network.

Patrick Terry, Principal, Scientia Advisors

Patrick Terry, a Principal at Scientia Advisors, heads the company's Pricing, Reimbursement & Market Access practice helping firms in therapeutics, diagnostics and medical devices, develop sound reimbursement strategies, implement market access solutions accelerating delivery of products and services, realize maximum clinical impact, and deliver value-based pricing in modern healthcare delivery systems in both North American and European markets. With over eighteen years of experience in senior leadership positions as an international investor, board member, chairman, and industry representative, for some of the world's leading life science research and product development companies, Patrick is known worldwide as a research and industry trail blazer. His specialties include applied genomics, stratified genetic medicine, advanced molecular diagnostics, pharmaceutical development, clinical translational medicine, companion diagnostics and intellectual property rights. Patrick has a deep background working with US and European regulatory agencies, policy groups, health technology assessment organizations, federal and state government agencies, medical professional societies, trade organizations, advocacy groups, centers for Medicare & Medicaid, and private payer & provider groups.  Prior to Scientia advisors, Patrick co-founded a cutting edge, publicly traded, personalized medicine company, Genomic Health, Inc. [NASDAQ: GHDX], as well as a variety of privately held biotechnology companies. He helped secure nearly a billion US dollars for a number of personalized medicine companies in North American and Europe. He was also instrumental in the creation of organizations which are currently influencing modern healthcare delivery around the world, including the Personalized Medicine Coalition, the European Personalized Medicine Association, and the Coalition for 21st Century Medicine.


 Karan Singh, Founder, (ginger-eye-oh) is a personal health analysis platform that uses behavioral data passively collected from our users’ mobile phones to give surprisingly accurate insights into their mental, social, and physical wellness. We leverage this information into health management and assessment applications for individuals, researchers, and enterprise partners.  Karan Singh, is finishing his MBA/MS through the Harvard-MIT division of Health Science & Technology program. Prior to founding, he worked for Humedica (venture-backed healthcare informatics), ZS Associates (management consulting for life-sciences clients) and Signal Point Partners (mobile ventures in emerging markets). 

Dustan Bonnin, CEO of Actualiti

Actualiti integrates unforeseen combinations of technologies, application areas, and partners to innovate novel business models, and quickly bring breakthroughs to new and emerging markets.  Prior to founding Actualiti, Dustan completed his seven year tenure at Peptimmune, Inc. (Cambridge, MA) as the Director for Technology Development and Intellectual Property.  The lead inventor of a novel class of peptide, the DEEP Technology, Dustan created the intellectual property-based foundations for Declion Pharmaceuticals, a Peptimmune spin-out.  Prior to Peptimmune, Dustan’s decade long tenure at UC San Diego, and Praecis Pharmaceuticals (Waltham, MA) focused on peptide immunology. A published author, Dustan holds a patent on improvements to the class of compounds known by the predicate example, Copaxone (Teva, Isreal). Dustan currently maintains a posting as a Visiting Scientist in the bioinformatics section at the University of Manchester (UK), holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship from Babson College, and has been a registered US Patent Agent since 2002. Dustan received a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from UC Santa Barbara.  

David R Jones, Director, Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs & Philips Business Excellence Philips

Home Monitoring, Philips Healthcare   

David is the Director Quality Assurance, Regulatory Affairs and Philips Business Excellence for Philips Home Monitoring based in Framingham, Massachusetts. In this role he is responsible for Quality, Regulatory and Compliance integration initiatives for the Philips Home Monitoring businesses, which includes Philips Lifeline, Philips Remote Cardiac Services and Philips Telehealth Solutions. He is responsible for all Quality, Regulatory and Compliance Merger and Acquisition activities, as Philips Home Monitoring builds out the portfolio of home based healthcare delivery capabilities with the goal of becoming the market leader in home healthcare. David’s prior role at Philips, for five years, was as the Director of Worldwide Quality and Regulatory for Patient Monitoring, Philips Healthcare. His Quality and Regulatory responsibilities included the full spectrum of software based Patient Monitoring products such as multi-parameter hospital based clinical measurements monitors, telemetry and departmental computer information systems, patient surveillance central stations and networking products. In this role David managed teams in both the U.S. and Germany. David’s team successfully worked with the FDA with over forty 510(k)s receiving substantial equivalence clearance in an average of 26 days and worldwide regulatory approvals to support time-to-market goals resulting in over $3 billion in global revenue.  Prior to joining Philips Medical Systems, David was the Director of Global Quality Information Systems responsible for Worldwide Software Quality Assurance and Software Compliance Strategies for Bausch & Lomb’s Vision Care, Surgical, and Pharmaceutical Divisions. David holds a M.S. Regulatory Affairs in Drugs, Biologics, and Medical Devices, and an M.S. Engineering Management, both from Northeastern University. He earned B.Sc. Mechanical Engineering and B.Com Economics honours degrees from the University of Birmingham, England. David is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering and a Member of the IEEE. He is an Industrial Advisory Board Member of Boston University’s Department of Biomedical Engineering, and Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s Department of Computer and Software Engineering. David has been an invited speaker at conferences both in the U.S. and Europe where he has focused on the quality, regulatory and compliance aspects of software development for Medical Devices. These include the Second Annual Medical Device Regulatory, Reimbursement and Compliance Congress at Harvard, the USC College of Pharmacy FDA QSR ISO 13485 Compliance Conference, the Post Market Surveillance and Vigilance for Medical Devices Conference and the Best Practices in Software Design for Medical Devices Conference. He has been a guest editor for the IEEE and published in peer reviewed technical journals.
