Celebration of Writing and Literacy

Partners

The Celebration of Writing and Literacy provides a space for educators to share how literacy shapes practice, students, schools and communities.  Join us for a day of idea sharing, community and celebration.

Saturday, October 1, 2016 from 8:00am to 4:00pm

  • Pre-registration online: $10

  • Day-of registration at the door: $15

  • Breakfast provided from 8:00 to 8:30am; lunch is on your own

  • Plenary session begins at 8:30, followed by workshops for and by educators

  • Most sessions are technology-infused; please bring a laptop or mobile device


FEATURED WORKSHOP: POETRY INSIDE OUT (PIO) 

Explore the use of translation and poetry to build essential language skills and honor linguistic and cultural diversity in the classroom. Offered in partnership with the School District of Philadelphia's Office of Multilingual Programs and the Center for the Art of Translation. [This is an all-day workshop following the plenary.]


KEYNOTE SPEAKER: BOB FECHO

Bob Fecho is Professor of English Education at Teachers College, Columbia University. Bob Fecho's books include Teaching for the Students: Habits of Heart, Mind, and Practice in the Engaged Classroom and Teaching Outside the Box But Inside the Standards: Making Room for Dialogue.
