Event description
The Department of Geography at Framingham State University is excited to host NESTVAL 2019 on Friday and Saturday, October 18-19.

About this Event

The New England-St. Lawrence Valley (NESTVAL) Division of the American Association of Geographers hosts an annual meeting each fall for its members to present and share their research.

This year’s conference theme is “Climate Change Education.” The conference is hosted this year by Framingham State University in Framingham, Massachusetts.

In addition to research presentations from members, the event includes a geography bowl competition for students, a keynote speaker, and field trips to local sites of geographical interest.

This year’s keynote speaker is Dr. Kerry Emanuel, a renowned meteorologist and climate scientist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology who is the author of several popular books on weather and climate change.

We are also happy to welcome Dr. Jacqueline M. Vadjunec, NSF Program Director for Geography and Spatial Sciences. She will give a presentation on Writing Effective National Science Foundation Proposals in Geography and Related Fields on Saturday, October 19 during Paper Session II at 10:30 am.

The student GeoBowl will be held on Friday afternoon/evening. Paper and Poster sessions will be held throughout the day on Saturday. The student paper and poster competition is scheduled for Saturday morning, with winners announced at the Business Luncheon on Saturday at 12:00.
