We return for a second year at the Red Banks Alvar State Natural Area along the Niagara Escarpment in Brown County.

About this event

July’s event had participants removing invasive plants and learning about the unique features across the oak savanna alvar. Wildflower plants are then tagged for seed collection as part of the process. Well, the time is now upon us to collect the seeds from those plants!

We’ll work with DNR Biologist Jacob Koebernik as we collect seeds and learn more about the alvar’s fall features. Also joining us will be Bob Bultman, a geologist and ecologist, who will answer questions about the Escarpment features.

Enjoy an outdoor learning experience in one of Wisconsin’s most unique ecological landscapes. Alvar landscapes are present in only a few places along the Escarpment’s 1,000+ mile long corridor and we’re lucky enough to have one right in Brown County!

Pre-registration required and donations encouraged. Event to be held rain or shine. Wear appropriate clothes/protection for weather, sturdy shoes, and bring gloves, your own bag lunch, and water. Detailed directions provided at registration.

No restrooms available at site.

Please register by September 24, 2022. Maximum of 20 participants.

Directions from the South: WIS 57 approximately 4.7 miles north of WIS 54. Please park/meet on Gibson Lane which is also the turn for Timberline Landscaping. Drive past Timberline Landscaping about a quarter mile and the Alvar parking lot is on the left.
