Fun fact. Sometimes presidents don’t always get it right.

Take Gerald Ford for example. In 1974, President Ford signed a memorandum and veto rejecting a proposal establishing the Cuyahoga Valley recreation area as part of the National Park System. President Ford said, “We believe that this proposal…is clearly not deserving of National Park System status and administration…I believe that the major responsibility for providing outdoor recreation opportunities for day-to-day use resides with State and local Governments.”

In spite of the President’s misgivings, in 2000 the Cuyahoga Valley Recreation Area became the Cuyahoga Valley National Park. And now, nearly 50 years after President Ford’s goof, we understand all too well just how wrong he was. As part of the NPS, CVNP offers northeast Ohio residents more than 32,500 acres of green space available for exploration and learning.

Join us at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March 7 at the beautiful Boston Mill Visitor Center in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park for our March ecosystem meeting. We’re looking forward to a great discussion with CVNP rangers about the many STEM-focused careers available through NPS. We’ll also have a summary of February’s Score with STEM event and our ongoing work with the Cleveland Cavaliers, as well as ecosystem news and updates. We'll see you there!
