Did you know soapbox derby racers have been around since the turn of the 20th century? True story. In fact, soapbox racers were featured in the 1914 Charlie Chaplain short Kid Auto Races at Venice. Throughout the 1950s and 60s, as many as 70,000 people gathered to watch the event. Today, the event draws thousands of people and hundreds of racers from all over the world.
And it’s right here in Akron.
Join us at 4:00 p.m. on August 1 at Derby Downs in Akron for our monthly ecosystem meeting. We’ll be treated to a tour of the 953.9-foot racetrack and surrounding grounds and, for the bravehearted, a chance to race an official All-American Soapbox Derby car! We’ll also have a bite to eat and good conversation. We'll see you there!
