AHA-AAP Neonatal Resuscitation Program
The course is designed for health care professionls involved in any aspect of neonatal reusucitation, especially those providing direct care during neonatal resuscitation.
Please carefully review the following information.
Class time will be use to practice and review skills, integrate skills, simulate a team based resuscitation and review performance of the team resuscitation.
What does this mean for you?
There is NO lecture at the class.
You will need to take AND PASS the online examination before but not more than 30 days prior to the class you will be attending. Please note, you must complete and pass the online exam BEFORE YOU WILL BE ADMITTED to a class.
OB techs will be evaluated on Lessons 1,2,3,4 and 9. All others will need to complete all lessons.
How does this work?
Obtain a text book from the Education office
(There is a fee deducted for textbooks not returned within 2 weeks following the class for which you were registered.)
You will receive a password to take the test online.
The hospital will pay the test fee for hospital employees.
The test must be completed BEFORE you come to class.
You will bring a copy of your completion form with you to the class. This is your entrance ticket
You will not be admitted without your Pass/completion certificate.
What if you don’t pass the test?
The password will allow you to take the test a second time if you did not pass.
IF YOU DO NOT PASS THE TEST THE SECOND TIME YOU WILL BE
RESPONSIBLE FOR THE EXAM FEES.
When you come to class you will participate in several performance stations. These stations will give you an opportunity to practice, ask questions, and learn what is expected as you do each skill.
Next you will demonstrate technique and understanding at the Integrated Skills Station.
You will then go on to a simulated resuscitation exercise. Here you will work with others in a team approach to provide care to an “infant” needing some level of resuscitation. Please note this is a TEAM response. Because of the team emphasis, individual “pass offs” will no longer be done.
Following the simulation there will be a debriefing which is a time for the team to discuss their performance in the “code”.
Please note there are several starting times listed for each course. It is anticipated that this will decrease waiting time and avoid “line ups” at each station. As you sign up for a time remember your final pass off station will be done as a group, preferably with team members of different licensure and skill sets.
As you prepare for the Neonatal Resuscitation Program, please remember:
You Need to be Ready to Perform.
