Event description

Description

The Northeast Ohio Human Trafficking Law Clinic at the Renee Jones Empowerment Center is a unique model of providing legal advocacy and holistic, restorative services for human-trafficking survivors all in one place. The Law Clinic’s mission is to represent survivors of human trafficking and empower them to lead happy and fulfilled lives; to advocate for legislative reform so state and federal laws assist human-trafficking victims, penalize traffickers, and reduce the demand for sexual exploitation; and to provide education and awareness regarding human trafficking issues.

The Law Clinic’s First Annual Human Trafficking Symposium will bring together experts, service providers, law enforcement, advocates, and survivors to address current human trafficking laws, legislative efforts, law-enforcement strategies, and other ways that individuals from across the spectrum are working together to combat this growing crime. Our featured speaker will be Ohio State Senator Teresa Fedor, who has worked tirelessly to advocate for legislation against human trafficking and whose efforts have resulted in the passage of Ohio’s Safe-Harbor Act and End-Demand Act. In addition to many other exciting speakers, a panel of survivors will discuss how they have learned to survive and thrive after life as sex-trafficking victims.
