Description

Celebrate the 10th Anniversary of Jazz Appreciation Month in Philadelphia! The Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy is bringing FREE performances, dance classes and more to community spaces around the city with 10 free Neighborhood Jazz Days!

Join us on Tuesday, April 7, 2020 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at the Lucien E. Blackwell West Philadelphia Regional Library for the second free Neighborhood Jazz Day. This event will feature appearances by Sistahs Attune and Brent White.

Sistahs Attune, a project under the umbrella of The Women’s Coalition for Empowerment, Inc., present a Jazz, Funk, Blues & Soul infused performance in celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month. Trombonist Brent White will present a suite of jazz children's music as part of the project Broken Toy, dedicated to all of those who suffered emotional damage caused by losing a father due to incarceration. Each piece of music is based on a phrase in the Children's Book by Daniel Beaty, Knock, Knock. The suite is also inspired Brent’s personal experience of losing his father to incarceration until the age of nine.

The Office of Arts, Culture and the Creative Economy (OACCE) presents Philly Celebrates Jazz, a celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month in April. All month long, OACCE presents jazz-inspired events in Philadelphia’s neighborhoods and promotes jazz happenings across the city.
