Presentation: Blockchain: For The Rest of Us

Blockchain is a huge buzzword and depending on who you ask will either completely change the world or be a colossal dud. Like most things, the truth is somewhere in the middle. Blockchain use cases have moved away from their cryptocurrency roots as enterprises explore applications of distributed ledger technology to improve their business, increasing the technology's potential footprint in our daily lives. Beyond cases of business improvement, some advocates claim blockchain is the panacea for all of our security woes. What does all of this mean for security?

As security professionals, it's essential that we gain familiarity with the technology and add sanity to the conversation. Early familiarity allows us to get ahead of the curve and not get caught off-guard the way we were with other disruptive technologies. This presentation provides an overview of blockchain, discusses use cases, and covers the security problems that persist in the blockchain ecosystem.
