Speaker: Timothy McKenzie

Timothy McKenzie is a Senior Consultant and Red Team Technical Lead for Secureworks, as well as a Certified Instructor candidate for SANS SEC542 Web App Penetration Testing and Ethical Hacking course. After over a decade successfully building secure networks and systems for financial, government, service, and manufacturing organizations, Timothy spent the last ten years focusing on penetration testing, exploit development, and adversary emulation. Timothy uses his diverse understanding of enterprise systems while emulating digital threat actor hacking activities to help corporate leaders understand the potential impact associated with network breaches. With the belief that learning new things has the most value when it is shared with others, Timothy enjoys teaching for SANS and tutoring teens in information security. Living on his small amateur farm in North Texas, Timothy spends most evenings and weekends with his wife, eight kids, foreign exchanges students, goats, horses, and donkeys. Timothy graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from Western Governor's University in 2007, and holds dozens of certifications including SANS' GPEN, GWAPT, GXPN, GAWN, GPYC and GWEB, as well as the OSCP and CISSP.

Presentation: Shall we play a game?

How about executing attack scenarios against your team by emulating threat actors within scenarios called campaigns? Threat actors who will emulate tools, tactics and procedures used by real-world attackers in one or more different categories of attacks. You will be scored on your ability to prevent, detect, respond and recover from events. A determined adversary who will launch goal-based attacks, modelling real-world tactics, tools and methods, with the intent of training your team to identify real indicators of active attacks, provide a forum for tuning defensive tools, as well as facilitate a context to practice and adjust security policies, standards, and procedures.
