NEA’s Making Connections: Engaging ESP Members in Building Community Support

This workshop is especially for ESP – bus drivers, custodians, secretaries, ed techs and food service workers.  The workshop is delivered by members of the NEA ESP Respect Cadre.

Making Connections is about engaging members and building community support. These are tough times for ESP members, and every one of us needs skills to help build support for who we are and what we do. This support translates not only into respect, but also into achieving better pay, protection from privatization, and other Association goals. We will cover the importance of building connections, who to connect with, how to have open conversations with members, as well as traditional and non-traditional allies, and how to “put a face on it” and get the word out. To address the threats to Maine's ESP we will also address outsourcing of ESP jobs – what it is, why it’s happening, and how to keep it out of your school district.
