3:30 PM – Putting on your trauma lens - basics of trauma - how/why kids are impacted - Heather Forkey, MD
- Review the human stress response and the connections with ACES, toxic stress and resilience
- Apply the role of attachment or safe, stable and nurturing relationships as they address resilience and trauma
- Identify the long-term impact of repeated stimulation of fight or flight responses and hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis at the molecular, cellular and organ level and how this presents as physiologic and behavioral effects
- Explain differential sensitivity to context, or the “orchids and dandelions” theory

4:45 PM – Another lens: Helping families navigate mental health needs - Stefanie Armstrong & Cathy Schweitzer from The Cord
- Review behaviors that may be linked to underlying mental health issues.
- Identify language to facilitate conversations to seek mental health treatment.
- Explain methods to help parents connect behaviors to potential mental health concerns.
